Instagram adds new DM options

Instagram adds new DM options

Instagram is rolling out a suite of new features to enhance its direct messaging (DM) experience, making it more accessible, expressive, and user-friendly. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new:

🎤 Voice Message Transcription & Extended Length

Responding to user feedback, Instagram now offers transcription for voice messages in DMs. This feature converts audio messages into text, allowing users to read messages when listening isn’t convenient. Additionally, the maximum length for voice messages has been extended from one minute to five minutes, providing more flexibility for detailed conversations.

🌍 Message Translation

Breaking down language barriers, Instagram introduces an in-chat translation feature supporting 99 languages. Users can now translate messages directly within their DMs by holding down on a message and tapping “Translate,” facilitating smoother global communication.

🎶 Music Sharing

Enhancing the social experience, users can now share 30-second previews of songs directly within DMs. By accessing the sticker tray and selecting “Music,” users can search Instagram’s audio library and send tracks, allowing friends to discover and enjoy music together without leaving the chat.

📅 Scheduled Messaging

Planning messages in advance is now possible with Instagram’s scheduled messaging feature. Users can compose a message, long-press the send button, and select a specific date and time for delivery, up to 29 days ahead. This tool is ideal for timely greetings, reminders, or coordinating events.

📌 Pinned Messages

To keep important information readily accessible, Instagram allows users to pin up to three messages per conversation. Whether it’s a key detail, a memorable photo, or a favorite meme, pinned messages stay at the top of the chat for easy reference.

🔗 Group Chat QR Codes

Inviting friends to group chats is now more straightforward with QR code functionality. Users can generate a unique QR code for any group chat, which others can scan to join instantly, simplifying the process of expanding group conversations.

These updates are part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enhance user interaction and make the platform a more robust messaging alternative. The features are rolling out globally on iOS and Android devices, with web support expected to follow.
