Meta Expands Brand Rights to target Scam ads

Meta has introduced major updates to its Brand Rights Protection tool, giving businesses stronger ways to defend their brands across Facebook and Instagram. The changes aim to make it easier and faster to combat scams, fraud, and impersonation.

Expanded Scam Ad Reporting
All businesses enrolled in Brand Rights Protection can now report suspected scam ads at scale—even if the ads don’t directly use their intellectual property.
- A new “Other” violation category lets brands flag misleading promotions, deceptive offers, or scams designed to steal money or personal information.
- This expansion means brands can act against fraudulent activity that exploits their name or reputation without explicit IP misuse.
Simplified Takedown Request Process
Meta has redesigned the takedown process to reduce steps and save time for rights holders.
Key changes include:
- Sub-tabs by violation type: Copyright, Counterfeit, Impersonation, Trademark.
- Enhanced search tools: Find cases by keywords, trademarks, report IDs, or report owner names.
- A more intuitive, user-friendly interface in the “Reports” tab.
Improved Case Tracking and Transparency
Updated report status notes now make it easier for businesses to follow the progress and resolution of their reports.
AI-Powered Detection
The tool uses AI image matching—based on reference images of a brand’s products—to automatically detect unauthorized use across Meta’s apps.
In 2024 alone, Meta says it removed over 157 million pieces of ad content from Facebook and Instagram for violating its fraud, scam, and deceptive practices policies.
Industry Collaboration
Meta works with industry experts, law enforcement, and partners to help hold threat actors accountable. While the platform deploys automated detection and content review systems, Meta emphasizes that brands also play a critical role by actively flagging suspicious content.
